Postural adaptations from breast surgery can go on for years

Anytime you feel you need a boost, watch this video to find out how you can help yourself stand upright and balanced again

Research shows that exercise after breast cancer surgery can improve shoulder range of motion and decrease chest tightness and pain

This 2017 study by M. Wilson goes on to say It's important to exercise mindfully and pair each exercise with the breath, which is why we made this the last of our 4-part series, so you're body has had some time to heal after surgery and you've gotten well connected with movement and breath from Parts 2 & 3.

What happens if you don't stretch and strengthen?

There are many fallouts to not being active after breast cancer surgery, some of which include higher risk of lymphedema, Frozen Shoulder, chronic weakness, tightness, low mood and poor body image.

Exercise is one of the elixirs of life, but because of your breast surgery and possible lymph node removal, you need strategic exercises that will not aggravate your body, lymphatic system or compromised musculature (if you've had muscles taken or significantly altered as a part of your surgery).

Our program will help you restore your upright posture with easy movements anyone can learn from home.

What people are saying

"Improved posture"

"I feel more upright and like it's easier to keep my shoulders and back in a better position." - H.S.

What are you going to learn in Part 4: Stretch and Strengthen for Excellent Posture?

You will learn 6 simple video lessons that will show you how to overcome the urge to roll inwards, instead opening across the chest and bringing your shoulders down and back.

If you've been doing the previous portions of our home-care support program, it is recommended you can start Part 4 after 10-12 weeks+ post-op.

If you are coming to this material fresh and haven't done any of our previous programs, it is recommended you are at least 4 months past your surgery and have clearance from your doctor to be doing these types of exercises.

Here's what you are going to learn:

Lesson 1: Neck

  • We are starting here as an easy way into your body, and to help your neck be strong and mobile, rather than stiff and restricted.

Lesson 2: Back

  • Easy exercises with light weights and bands to strengthen your back so it's easier to be upright, plus stretches that are safe even if you've had abdominal surgery.

Lesson 3: Chest

  • Chest is critical to exercise mindfully as it has been significantly altered through your surgeries.  You may have muscles and/or ribs removed, sensation and motor control impaired, so mindful exercises to stretch and strengthen is really important.

Lesson 4: Shoulders

  • Compromised shoulder mobility is one of the most common effects after breast surgery, so restoring movement and strength will help you not only hold them in a more balance position but also help you manoeuvre daily life more effectively.

Lesson 5: Core

  • Core strength helps hold your trunk upright and can be challenging to restore after the abdominal versions of breast cancer surgeries, so focusing exercises on activating surrounding core muscles can help overcome any muscle anomalies you may now have.  Even if you still have all your abdominal muscles, core strength not only helps your posture but it creates psychological strength as well.

Lesson 6: 30 mins stretch/strengthen routine

  • We finish the program off with a routine that takes you through warm up, strengthening and stretching for all 5 parts of your body we worked on in Lessons 1-5, so you can keep your routine going long into the future.

Please note: Must be at least 8 weeks post-op, but preferably 12 weeks+ to start this program
